RCL members take oath for St Michael’s

KATHERINE BURT-ROBINSON

Under normal circumstances the induction of the newly elected proctor body, where the current matric class pass on their role as leaders of the school to the next matric class, forms part of the Valedictory Service. This year, in order to accommodate social distancing, the induction was a separate service, attended only by the Grade Elevens, the RCL members of lower grades and their parents. In spite of this, the occasion still proved to be an enjoyable and meaningful one.

Rethabile Lebakeng, Head Girl for 2020, graciously handed over her role as head girl to Kgosatsana Mabalane. In a similar fashion, Nicoleen Dliwayo and Jessica Chuang passed the St Michael’s banner over to Boitumelo Mokeyane and Gabriella Marais, as a symbol of their stepping up as the new vice head girls of the school.

The rest of the proctor body took an oath together to uphold the school’s vision and mission and to strive to lead fairly.

Mr Van Wyk delivered a speech about the power of influence, and described the qualities and practices required of good leaders. These include effective planning and being good role models.

The service also included readings, and a sermon from Father Grant Trewern.
