Laughter, stories and food were shared at the Honours Dinner 2020. The guest speaker was the popular Ms Sulette Damons.

The evening started off with a short welcome from Mr Braam van Wyk . Before the starters were served, Dr Johan Cromhout  took the audience on a nostalgic trip to the Fifties with his romantic rendition of  Somewhere over the rainbow and Fly me to the moon.

These two beautiful songs perfectly fit the theme of ‘Dreams’ which was the focus of Ms Damon’s speech. In her inspirational address, she shared some secrets to overcoming adversities that she had learned during her excellent hockey career. She spoke about her dreams of being a star hockey player; how she went from playing for her school to playing for the country. She taught the audience that with hard work, support from family and friends, and faith in God, anything is possible.

St Michael’s walking library, Dr Cromhout,  helped everyone to connect to their roots again.

Excitement arose as it was then time for the prestigious Laureate awards to be handed out. They were awarded to Jessica Chuang, Katleho Habi, Jade Pringle and Katleho Motshumi. Specific awards? Expand on this.

The evening was a memorable occasion – stylish and inspirational with more than just a touch of magic.

The first Honours Dinner at St Michael’s was held in the ’90s. Initially there were two separate Honours Dinners, one for academic and one for sports achievements. It was then decided to combine into one event to honour, thank and congratulate learners who have excelled.
