It’s brand spanking new

Following many years of hosting practices, tennis matches and spontaneous tennis-themed games, the St Michael’s tennis courts were in need of a complete facelift. During the process of renovation, the courts were of course closed to all tennis-related activities. However, as soon as it was announced that they would be reopened, the eagerness to play on the courts could be seen in the attitude and stride of the tennis players who were eager to get back onto the revamped courts.

On 4 February, the St Michael’s tennis courts were finally reopened. After an opening prayer and a ceremonial blessing by Father Grant Trewern and a welcoming by Mr Braam van Wyk, the games began.

Although only a few teams took part in the tournament held, Eunice, St Andrew’s and the SMS First Team players played some smashing games. The event was enjoyed by all and the delight and gratification on Mrs Uys’s face was inspiring.

Since that day, the First Team went back to work. Following regular practice sessions and some exciting and intense league matches, Chika in Grade 8

ranked first in the team as she fought her way to the top. The future of SMS tennis is in the hands of a great generation of tennis players.
