Founders’ Day: A day of remembrance

ITUMELENG SEMOLI

The annual Founder’s Day celebrations kicked off in different phases at different venues. The FET phase started at the chapel where Mr Van Wyk handed over Founders’ Day awards to Jasmine Ali, Boitshepo Mogapi, Tayla Dlodlo, Boitumelo Mtsatse, Bonolo Lehoko, Keabetswe Mokhuoa, Khanya Sidinele, and Illiana Stevens. The awards were handed over by the chairlady of the SMS Old Girls Association, Ms Dominique le Riche.

The Intermediate Phase buzzed with excitement as they competed head-on to see which grade had the best war cry, whilst the Foundation Phase held their own gala. The cheerful atmosphere at the pool, with parents supporting their children, was contagious.

After the first activity, the grades assembled in different classes for a challenging game of Kahoot. Each grade assembled into their respective houses and it was game on.

The next activity was an Amazing Race which consisted of riddles, a face-scrub hunt and a war-cry competition dominated by the Grade 11s. The Grade 5s and 11s ended up with a tie as a result of an intense battle for the best war cry. The Grades with the most outstanding war-cry performance received face scrubs from Mrs Eileen Ndewere.

Before the school day came to an end, delicious cupcakes were handed out to learners to enjoy. A video of the day’s activities that received over 100 000 views on the school’s TikTok page was posted by the Media Club.
