From forensics analyst to star teacher

Mr Jaco Cilliers was born in Bloemfontein and attended school at Jim Fouché. He studied Forensics but decided that teaching was more challenging and interesting. He joined St Michael’s in Term 3 to replace Mrs Natasha Slabbert.

Southern Free State Squash Tournament

Ms Swanepoel an inspiration to young hockey players

Ms Jo-Nelke Swanepoel recently umpired the 2021 Senior Ladies’ Interprovincial Tournament in Cape Town. Blowing for both the semi-finals and the finals, she continued her tradition of blowing for both games ever since her first tournament in 2018.

Kaylen Simmons rules

Kaylen Simmons, captain of the SMS First Hockey Team, was a member of the Southern Free State U. 18A team that won both their matches against Northern Free State teams.

Canter, gallop, and leap to first place

When she rode for the first time at the age of 2, Alexia Augousti fell in love with the sport. Together with her horse Moonshine, or Moonie, or Moon for short, she competed in the SANESA Q4 2021. She competed in the dressage Special Needs Tests 3 and 4, as well as the Special Needs Performance Riding Class. She excelled in all three of her categories obtaining 3 red ribbons – which are for first place!

Handing over the baton…

The Valedictory Service for the Matric Class of 2021 was a memorable occasion filled with tears and great laughs. The service is the event when the matrics finally leave St Michael’s to start a new chapter of their lives. The baton is officially passed to the Grade 11s.

2022 leaders ready for action

The atmosphere was tense as each grade took turns to listen to the Grade 11 manifestos in the Chapel. The learners in the audience sat expectantly; the only sounds that could be heard were the voice of the speaker and the footsteps as one speaker exited and the next one entered.

Scientists soar at SMS

The St Michael’s team obtained a third position nationally at the annual science debating competition held by the South African Agency for Science and Technology Advancement (SAASTA).
