SMS netball is a happy place

FEDILE MOLOI & LYNN NGANUNU

Winning the first game of the season on home ground was a very important milestone for the First Netball Team. The game was nerve-racking as the teams were evenly matched in the first two quarters. However, the fitness levels of the opponents, Hoërskool Christiaan de Wet from Dewetsdorp, seemed to let them down in the final two quarters.

On top of that, the SMS team played excellently. Their defence was solid and almost impenetrable. Cabonina Mkwane gave her all and played a major role in keeping the ball away from the opponents’ goal post. Other star players were Ntabiseng Kibinye and Queen Sibeko. The final score was not an accurate reflection of how well the team played.

This exciting win was a great motivation and part of the reason why the team could give a good account of themselves for the rest of the season.

The captain, Nthabiseng Kibinye, says that she is encouraged by the depth of netball at St Michael’s. There are many younger players in the First and Second Teams who will have substantial influence in the future. The coach, Ms Tshego Lesia sees potential in the team, which leads to intense training. The netball girls look forward to excellent results in 2023.
