Imagine Dr Johan Cromhout walking into the chapel with a mink coat! The next minute he plays the music of the Phantom of the Opera so masterfully on the organ that it fills every orifice of the chapel. As he plays, elegant young ladies walk down the aisle.

The theme of this year’s Valentine’s Ball was the Phantom of the Opera. Learners were encouraged to dress according to the theme. Many ladies were dressed very elegantly and looked stunning!

A romantic atmosphere was set by candles that lit a pathway covered with rose petals which led the couples to the quad. Everyone enjoyed socialising there and happy voices and lots of laughter filled the air.

The Valentine’s Ball officially started after the principal, Mr Braam van Wyk, had opened with a prayer and welcomed everybody. He challenged the gentlemen to treat their dates even better than the fathers had treated their daughters at the previous evening’s Father-and-Daughter Valentine’s Ball.

The Harcourt Vernon Hall was beautifully decorated. Black tablecloths and chair covers created a perfect canvas for the candles and ‘crystals’ adorning the tables. Many stories and tender moments were shared around the tables.

After dinner had been served, the learners were ready to show off their moves on the dance floor. The playlist included many popular songs and everyone enjoyed the dancing.

The Grade 11s had really succeeded at presenting a spectacular Valentine’s Ball!
