St Michael’s goes global

KATHERINE BURT-ROBINSON

1 Mrs Liz Venter and Mrs Anel Ries

These two intrepid travellers went on a Kontiki tour to Europe during the June holidays.

Highlights of their trip were Switzerland and the city of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. They were impressed by the natural beauty and the elegance and beauty of the buildings, but also by the fact that everything is so well-kept, clean and neat, and works like clockwork.

2 Phakade Tshivhase (Grade 8) and Nomvula Letseleha (Grade 6) visited the United Kingdom with the Bloemfontein Children’s Choir. They went to Scotland and London. The highlight of their trip was visiting Buckingham Palace. The magnificent gardens, the sheer size and majesty of the building and especially the Change of the Guard were magical.

3 Tia Dasram

Tia Dasram, in Grade 10, journeyed to New York in June to take part in the Talent Africa International Talent Competition, where she won a silver medal for her singing in the pop division. She was also the overall runner-up. She loved the rush of the Big Apple, meeting new people and competing in the talent competition.

4 Dimpho Motsie and Amogelang Senyatsi

Dimpho Motsie and Amogelang Senyatsi spent ten days in the Netherlands during the September holidays competing against Dutch clubs as members of the Elsie Coetzer U19 Combined Hockey Team. Dimpho most enjoyed visiting Amsterdam and gaining experience from Dutch coaches, whilst Amogelang savoured eating ‘stroopwafels’ (a wafer waffle with caramel filling).

5 Masithela sisters

Thato and Ndumi Masithela, in grades 8 and 9 respectively, went on a family holiday to Vietnam at the beginning of the year. Thato most enjoyed going to Phu Quoc (more commonly known as ‘Pearl Island’), while Ndumi enjoyed the food, markets and visiting temples.

Ningning Fan

Ningning Fan, in Grade 6, and her family went to China in March to spend time with relatives. Ningning took pleasure in enjoying the local cuisine above all else.
