Hockey hero shares her dreams at Honours Dinner

The first Honours Dinner at St Michael’s was held in the ’90s. Initially there were two separate Honours Dinners, one for academic and one for sports achievements. It was then decided to combine into one event to honour, thank and congratulate learners who have excelled.

After the symbolic Basher Ceremony where the new high-school learners were welcomed into the hierarchy, the matric baton of the past hundred and forty-five years was passed on to the next generation. The matric badges were received with trepidation at the responsibility.

Corona virus changes lives

The knee-jerk response many South Africans experienced after the president announced a nationwide lockdown due to the COVID-19 crisis was panic buying. People raided their nearest supermarkets, emptying the shelves as if toilet paper and hand sanitiser would never again be available.

There is no elevator to success; you have to take the stairs

AT THE 99TH ANNUAL SPEECH NIGHT, Emily Chikobvu received a Gold Laureate, the highest honour St Michael’s can bestow on a learner. Silver Laureates were awarded to Abigail Holloway, Kopo Licela, Regomoditsoe Mmusi, Rachel Sweetlove and Kombe Chiwila. Honours badges were awarded to: Jessica Chuang and Genevieve Engeström for Academics, Aisha Camara, Gabriella Marais, Phemelo Radikeledi, Dimpho Motsie, Robyn Gordon and Nobiel Kifuabala for Sport, Tia Dasram for Culture and Relebohile Mosea for the Eskom Science Expo. The Work Cup was awarded to the Grade 10s of 2019, while the Queen Cup went to Buxton.

Farewell a display of poise, prestige and near perfection

The Matrics of 2019 arrived at the venue @ Tonic in classical style. The venue, dressed in gold and red, was adorned with glittering lights complemented by towering white centre pieces.

Grow up and do your duty

THE NEW GRADE 6 monitors were announced in chapel. Monitoring duties alternated during the first two terms of 2019 and now it was time for the final group of monitors to be announced.

In Memoriam Lesedi Mokone

St Michael’s mourn the loss of little Lesedi Mokone (Grade R) who died in a tragic car accident in Parys early in October. The school extends sincere condolences to her loved ones.

Sale of Work a blessing to the small school with the big heart

THE ANTICIPATION was palpable again weeks before Sale of Work this year. Teachers and learners were organising, cutting, pasting, folding, stringing and even sewing.

Senior Primary Choir sings in harmony

The Senior Primary Choir was especially busy this year. Their first important performance was ATKV Applous, where they were highly commended and obtained a silver certificate. They received an A at the Kunswedstryd later in the year.
