As the final whistle blew, shouts of joy erupted all over the astro. The First Team’s 2-0 win against Fichardt Park in the last game of the season was extra special because so many SMS learners had showed up to watch the ‘away’ game.
Dedication was evident in the SMS hockey teams’ pre-season preparation for 2022.
After a standstill caused by the Corona virus, the players were back and ready for action. The annual First-Team sleepover was the last of many arranged by former coach, Mr Braam van Wyk. The sleepover was fruitful as the ladies had the time to grow as a team and as individuals.
Winning the first game of the season on home ground was a very important milestone for the First Netball Team. The game was nerve-racking as the teams were evenly matched in the first two quarters. However, the fitness levels of the opponents, Hoërskool Christiaan de Wet from Dewetsdorp, seemed to let them down in the final two quarters.
After a year of not being able to compete in the pool due to the pandemic, the swimmers were back and ready for action at the Inter-house Gala – their perseverance, love for, and dedication to the sport brought them back.

ollowing many years of hosting practices, tennis matches and spontaneous tennis-themed games, the St Michael’s tennis courts were in need of a complete facelif. During the process of renovation, the courts were of course closed to all tennis-related activities. However, as soon as it was announced that they would be reopened, the eagerness to play on the courts could be seen in the attitude and stride of the tennis players who were eager to get back onto the revamped courts.
Ms Jo-Nelke Swanepoel recently umpired the 2021 Senior Ladies’ Interprovincial Tournament in Cape Town. Blowing for both the semi-finals and the finals, she continued her tradition of blowing for both games ever since her first tournament in 2018.
