In a small school such as St Michael’s, one teacher can play a very significant role. Mrs Karen Venter, the SMS Physical Sciences educator for the past two years, was one such teacher. It is with heavy hearts that the SMS community says goodbye to her as she begins a new phase in her life: completing her PhD.

Finding a replacement after Mrs Virginia Scott’s retirement was no easy task, considering that Mrs Scott had become one of the school’s most beloved teachers over the many years she spent at St Michael’s.

The Laureate award is the highest award that can be bestowed by St Michael’s in order to honour learners who show exceptional effort in academics, neatness and diligence, participation in extra mural activities and strength of character.
