The pink-sweet lady leaves St Michael’s

Mrs Rosemary van Niekerk handled the finances at SMS before she recently resigned. She was a warm presence in the office who was legendary for the pink sweets that she dished out to teachers when they felt a bit blue. She was a caring person who showed genuine interest in everyone’s wellbeing.

From the Editor’s Desk

2020 has felt like one of those long-winded, unrealistic movies you watch on a whim with your friends, which you give up on halfway through when keeping up with the plot starts to give you a headache (P.S. The movie probably stars Dwayne Johnson). Unfortunately, unlike those movies, there was no magical off-button that could end this year. Finally, we are approaching the end-credits, and are awaiting 2020’s swansong.

We are all on the same side

Grade 11 learners and all the St Michael’s teachers were asked to gather for a meeting. Everyone waited in anticipation as Mr Van Wyk took to the microphone.

New chapter opens for Mrs Venter

In a small school such as St Michael’s, one teacher can play a very significant role. Mrs Karen Venter, the SMS Physical Sciences educator for the past two years, was one such teacher. It is with heavy hearts that the SMS community says goodbye to her as she begins a new phase in her life: completing her PhD.

Baby packs for preemies donated

n the middle of a busy academic term with many challenges, including the Covid-19 pandemic, Mrs Melanie Schoeman initiated a project to inspire St Michael’s girls to show compassion by co-operating to donate packages for premature babies.

Get to know your teachers

Mrs Adrie Lombard is a force to be reckoned with. After obtaining her degrees in primary education and remedial teaching, she left South Africa for England where she worked with disabled children.

Gr 11s prank across the board

DURING PRANK WEEK the Grade 11 learners are set loose to cause havoc and disruptance in their teachers’ lives. The week started off with a bang as they played a pre-recorded message in the form of a purge announcement, over the intercom, stating that Prank Week had begun and that the teachers should ever so often look over their shoulders and tread carefully.
